Anomean uses climatological (multiple year bins) harmonic coefficients to calculate mean temperature, salinity, oxygen, density, oxygen saturation, and "spiciness" for each CalCOFI station at standard depths. These values when compared to observed values allow the derivation of anomalies based on climatological averages. Essentially, you can calculate how hydrographic conditions (current observed data or archive data) compare to the long-term average. Current climatological bins are: 1950-1999; 1950-1976; 1950-1984; 1977-1999; 1984-1999; plus an older, obsolete format, calcofi.cof (1950-94). More details on climatology.
Installation instructions.
The output format options are mean values and/or anomalies in either comma-delimited columns or IEH-formatted data. IEH-formatted output facilitates using IEH-compatible software to continue data processing or visualization. Comma-delimited allows importing into spreadsheet, database, Matlab, or similar applications. Using Calculate Anomalies or Expected Values from Input File:
Input format must be either IEH or CalCOFI e-mail/ISL format. A browse feature will be added but until then, enter the exact filename with path and extension. The output file naming is automatic but may be edited by the user. Output format: Note: all outputted depths are based on CalCOFI standard levels.
Coefficients File - select the coefficients set you want to calculate the mean values. Note that coefficients files only include stations with enough occupations to generate values with adequate confidence limits. Generate Mean Values using Date/Station/Harmonics -
This module will calculate mean values for CalCOFI stations based on day-of-the-year and Line & Station using a selected coefficients file. The user enter Month, Day, Year, Line & Sta - the program outputs mean values for that Line/Sta at standard levels. Leave month blank for all 12 months; leave Line and Sta blank for all stations (with coefficients). Output options are: comma-delimited, html table, or Sta Files. Comma-delimited is a single file containing all stations; html is mainly for in-house/webpage related uses; Sta Files are individual station files for each day selected. File naming for Sta Files are based on Line+Station+day_of_year. |
